In conflict resolution, the listed methods are personal approaches you take to handle a dispute: competing, collaborating (often called collaboration), and avoiding are ways you actively respond to the conflict. Mediation, on the other hand, is a facilitated process where a neutral third party helps the sides communicate and reach an agreement. It’s not a way an individual chooses to deal with the conflict itself, but a method for guiding the resolution. That’s why Mediation is the one that is NOT part of the CCCAA set.
